The Borowski Household is located in Possum Springs and is home to Stan Borowski, Candy Borowski, and Mae Borowski.

The player typically starts and ends the day here and it is one of the first few areas the player will come across.

Profile[]

Description[]

The entire house is comprised of three floors, the ground floor, the second floor, and the attic. The ground floor is a small area comprised of the entrance, the living room, and the kitchen. In the morning, Mae's mother is in the kitchen. At night, Mae's father is on the couch, sometimes watching Garbo & Malloy.

The second floor has stairs leading to the ground floor and the attic, as well as two different doors, one heading to a storage room of sorts and another which presumably leads to the parents' bedroom. There is a red bird, presumably a cardinal, and a bookshelf from Mae's grandfather. There is also a grandfather clock, which may be a pun.

Mae's bedroom takes up the entire attic and the player can choose to end the day here. Here, Mae's laptop can be accessed.

In the Weird Autumn update, Mae has the option to practice an assortment of songs with her bass, accessible in her room.

Background[]

Prior to the start of Night in the Woods, Stan and Candy Borowski raise Mae all throughout her childhood in the household. Her grandad would tell stories to her, and her grandma would make her go to church with her every Sunday. Six years prior to the start of the game, Mae had a mental break following a marathon playthrough with a VN she was playing, causing her to experience a sudden form of dissociation from the real world - which seemed like an acute episode of derealization.

The next day at the softball match, a second episode occurred, something "broke inside her" and before she knew it, she was beating Andy Cullen's head in with a bat in front of the entire school. She was then put on medication and sent to Dr. Hank for treatment, who gave her the same journal she uses at the start of the game.

Because of this incident, Candy and Stan had to pay Andy Cullen's outstanding medical bills, sending them into a deep spiral of financial strain. Because of their money problems, they were manipulated by a bank into taking a fishy mortgage they weren't able to keep up payments with. In-game, Due to the mortgage and the fact that the Borowski's aren't feasibly able to keep up with payments, the bank legally owns their house. They could lose their house at any point, if they are incapable of keeping up with the bills, something that both Stan and Candy stress over, when bill time arises.

Story[]

Each day of the game starts with Mae waking up at the Borowski Household, in her room, on her bed. She starts the day (or often afternoon) getting dressed in her room, optionally check her laptop and practice her bass. On the second floor are a handful of objects that can be interacted with daily. In the kitchen on the base floor, Mae can optionally talk to her mother. During night time, Mae has a small conversation with her father, where she has the option to watch Garbo & Malloy together.

On the third day of Part 1, the players have the option to play through Demontower, however this is optional. The Laptop can be interacted with each day, and chats with Gregg, Bea, and Angus can be had each day / night. TurnUp and Sharkle can also optionally be interacted with, the former giving unique dialogue each day.

Part 1: Home Again[]

At the start of the game, after Mae Borowski is driven home by Aunt Molly after trespassing the closed down sawmill park, she ends up back at her house. Mae walks into the house, upset that her parents forgot to pick her up, and scares her father Stan. Mae ends the conversation still angry, and goes to bed in her room.

On the second day, Mae wakes up and potentially has a conversation with Candy, before heading out to hang out with her friends. Mae can have an optional conversation with her mom at the start of the day, the two talk about Mae's sudden college drop-out, as well as where her friends are currently with life. Candy's morbid curiosity with true crime books comes up, alongside the running "eeeeeels" gag between the two forming. At the end of the day, Mae and Stan patch up their brief squabble about not picking her up, and agree to start over as though they had.

On the third day, Mae's laptop is introduced, however it's unusable due to pop-up ads and viruses. She has a brief conversation with her mom about Angus and her rejoining the band. She goes to Angus for help, who gives Mae a USB with software to install into the laptop. It resets her computer to a state prior to the viruses, as well as installs Demontower. The night ends with Mae and her Dad having a conversation about Angus, his family, and the severed arm found in front of the Clik Clak Diner.

On the fourth day, Mae can check the laptop where Gregg asks Mae to ask Bea about potentially driving them all up to the campfire party. On the second floor, the family portrait can be interacted with that alludes to the incident. Mae can talk to Candy about her going to a party, Her ex Cole, and briefly College. She heads out to ask Bea if she can drive them, and goes back home to get ready, where her parents are making dinner. The player has the option to have dinner with them. After dinner, Mae gets ready for the party and heads out. After the party, Mae is blackout drunk and needs Bea help her into bed, after being driven home. Bea wonders what happened to Mae, why she turned out the way that she did, and how little she's matured, despite Mae being older. Mae goes to sleep, and has her first dream sequence.

Part 2: Weird Autumn[]

The morning of the party, Mae, hung over, wakes from her dream about college, and daydreams about burning her room down. She doodles in her journal about her becoming a ghost on fire. Mae optionally checks her laptop, and can chat with both Bea and Gregg. Bea apologizes for her harsh words last night, and invites her to say hi at the Ol' Pickaxe. Gregg asks if she's okay, and invites her to say hi at the Snack Falcon for band practice. Leaving her room, she can talk to Candy about the previous night's events, and about her ex. As the day draws near, Mae has a conversation with Stan about her getting drunk at the party. He offers sage wisdom about drinking: "Don't drink the night before". Mae can also optionally tell her dad about her hangout session with Bea / Gregg, and watch Garbo & Malloy with him, before heading to bed, and having another dream.
